Job description
The Sales Associate position will be a key member of Standard Biocarbon’s (standardbiocarbon.com) sales and marketing team as it begins the rollout of high quality, high carbon biochar into the marketplace. With biochar being produced and ready to sell by the end of 2023, SBC is seeking a reliable and hardworking individual to identify, contact, and sell to potential customers. The Sales Associate will be a self starter who has exceptional interpersonal skills and a depth of knowledge regarding the varying applications of biochar. These applications include, but are not limited to soils, manure management, remediation, and composites. The Sales Associate will also assist the CMO in marketing efforts such as quarterly newsletters, social media postings, and conferences/trade shows. This will be a hybrid position located in Southern Maine or Massachusetts.
The following is a summary of the Sales Associate’s key responsibilities:
Report directly to the CMO, Thomas Horton
Attend trade shows and conferences to promote Standard Biocarbon’s biochar
Identify sales leads for the CMO
Cold call and email potential customers
Manage customer accounts
Secure short and long term off-take agreements
Analyze companies within a variety of target verticals, perform outreach campaigns, and drive customers to sign sales agreements
Create marketing and pitch collateral
Organize and log sales interactions with prospective customers in web based CRM (Pipedrive)
Desired Experience and Skills
Experience with a startup in the green tech industry
Background in sales and marketing in an early stage industry and/or background in communications or marketing
“Cold calling’ experience - confident and enthusiastic about reaching out to prospective customers
Professional experience or education in the soils and agricultural market
Professional experience or education in the remediation market (wetland remediation, stormwater remediation, etc)
Knowledge of or experience in one or more of the following market verticals: turf, soils, greenhouse horticulture, municipal stormwater, wetlands restoration, urban/municipal greening
Have used CRM / willingness to become proficient
Comfortable with public speaking
Ability to travel (25%) throughout the Northeast to prospective customers
Desired Traits
Motivation toward fighting climate change and interest in climate change mitigation strategies
Highly organized and motivated to work with little supervision
Ability to effectively communicate progress with the entire SBC team including plant manager, CEO, CMO, engineers, and others.
Understanding of biochar and the biochar marketplace
Experience executing sales agreements and creating offtake contracts
